Hello, my name is Mrs Kath Griffiths, “Mrs. G” to the students, and I have had the great privilege of being the School’s Library Officer for the past 15 years. I claim to have the best job in the School.
Every week I enjoy the company of all the students at Warnbro Primary School as they visit the library to select books to take home to develop the love of reading for pleasure.
All members of staff try to make library time exciting, whether it is for our Kindy children – who often take home the same book several times; because it’s their “very favourite book”, to the upper levels in our school who avidly await the latest release of their favourite author or series.
My greatest joy in the Library is watching reluctant readers suddenly discover that they can truly read and enjoy books, whatever their year level.
Each term the children participate in an incentive program to encourage them to return their books on the due date, it’s called “Mrs. G’s Library Lunch”. Every time they return the books on time the children fill in a raffle ticket and place it in the appropriate box for their teaching block. At the each term two names are drawn out of each of the four boxes and the children receive a voucher to the value of $3.50 to spend on a healthy lunch of their choice at the school canteen.
As part of the Literacy Program we participate in Scholastic Book Clubs and Book Fairs, the children come to know the joy of owning their very own books, and through a commission scheme for the school, we also enjoy receiving free items for our library for the children to borrow.
